Measure yourself
Measuring your shirt size is a relatively simple, quick, and relevant task. It is crucial that your clothing fits well, not only for aesthetics but also for comfort. An overly tight shirt is uncomfortable, and an excessively loose one provides too much fabric, while a shirt that is too short easily comes untucked.
1. Collar Size: To measure the collar size, place the tape measure around the base of your neck, where the collar should sit. This is typically around the level of the Adam’s apple. Do not pull the tape too tight, and make sure you can still swallow comfortably. Note the number of centimeters you measure. Usually, between 1 and 2 centimeters are added to the collar size.
2. Waist: Measure your waist at its narrowest point. Measure while standing and maintain a bit of slack. Do not suck in your stomach because you wouldn’t want to do that all day while wearing the shirt.
3. Chest size: Measure your chest size under your armpits at the widest part. You want to be able to move comfortably, so do not measure too tightly. Do not artificially puff out your chest, as you wouldn’t do that in daily life.
4. Arm length: To determine the sleeve length, measure from your shoulder to just over your wrist bone. If you frequently wear a blazer, take this into account; your shirt should extend 1 to 2 centimeters below your jacket.
5. Back Length: To measure the back length, place the tape measure on your spine and measure from the neck to just over your backside.
